But as is often the case with the most beautiful places, timing is everything. During the summer months, the lakeside can become quite busy throughout the day, and some of the magic can get lost. With a little planning and our personal tips, you can experience Lake Braies at its most beautiful – peaceful, authentic, and filled with the true spirit of the mountains.

From Montanaris, you can reach the lake in no time and enjoy the moments that make it truly special: the first rays of sunlight in the morning or the soft evening glow, when the crowds slowly disappear and calm returns.
Waking up early is well worth it.
Those who set off before 8:00 am can enjoy the journey in a particularly relaxed way. Until 9:00 am, access to the valley is possible without a reservation – completely stress-free and without long waiting times. The experience is even more special for early risers: when the first rays of sunlight touch the mountain peaks and reflect in the crystal-clear water, Lake Braies reveals itself from one of its most beautiful sides. The air is fresh, the lake is often perfectly calm, and the unique atmosphere of this place feels almost exclusively yours. Before the boat rental opens and the day truly begins, you can still feel the untouched power of the Dolomites.
The evening has its own magic, too.
Are you more the type to take things slow and enjoy the moment? No problem. A visit in the late afternoon is just as rewarding. From 4:00 pm onwards, access to the Braies Valley is possible again without a reservation. As the day visitors gradually leave the lake, the light becomes softer, the mountains are reflected in the water, and a very special sense of tranquility settles over this magical place. This is when Lake Braies reveals its full beauty once again. Our tip: Plan your visit intentionally outside the busiest hours. This way, a well-known destination becomes your own personal favorite spot in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.
Relaxed on the way – how to reach Lake Prags
So that your journey becomes part of the experience itself, we have a few more tips for you.
Arriving by car is generally possible in summer; however, between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, access is only permitted with a prior reservation. Without a valid permit, entry into the valley is not allowed and you will have to turn back. In addition, fees apply for both the access road and parking.
An even more relaxed option is to start your journey right at Montanaris: the bus stop for line 442 is located only about 50 meters from our house. It takes you comfortably and stress-free directly to Lake Braies. A small note for the summer months: the journey on this bus line is not included in the Guest Pass, and advance online reservation via the official Braies Valley website is required.
For all of you who love discovering the Dolomites in an active way, there is of course also the option to reach Lake Prags by bike. At Braies Rent, right next to Montanaris, you will find the perfect bike for your adventure. As our guests, you also receive an additional 10% discount on bike rental. After around one hour of cycling, you will reach the lake – with fresh mountain air on your face, beautiful impressions along the way, and that special feeling of having earned this moment yourself.
